IT. L’artista olandese Petra Noordkamp (nata nel 1967) si muove agevolmente tra fotografia e cinema. Esplora l’influenza delle esperienze, dei ricordi, dei film e dei sogni sulla percezione dell’architettura e dell’ambiente urbano. Il suo lavoro, che è caratterizzato da un grande amore per la semplicità, per il vuoto, per la forma e l’estetica, trasmette una sensazione di solitudine, alienazione e malinconia.
Vive e lavora ad Amsterdam, dove ha studiato fotografia presso la Gerrit Rietveld Academie. Per diversi anni lavora per riviste e quotidiani, partecipando però anche a a varie mostre collettive, fin quando, nel 2012, realizza il suo primo cortometraggio. The Mother, the Son and the Architect venne presentato al Fotografiemuseum (Foam) di Amsterdam, nell’ambito di una mostra dedicata al suo lavoro, ed è stato selezionato per vari festival cinematografici e mostre, in Olanda e nel resto del mondo. Nell’autunno del 2013 è stata artist-in-residence all’American Academy di Roma. Nel 2014 la Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation di New York le ha commissionato un cortometraggio su Il Grande Cretto di Gibellina, un’opera di land art dell’italiano Alberto Burri. Il film è stato proiettato al Guggenheim durante la retrospettiva di Burri, nel 2015; nel 2016 è stato presentato al K21 di Düsseldorf, al MAXXI di Roma, alla Fondazione Burri di Città di Castello e al Centre Pompidou di Parigi. Nel gennaio del 2018, il suo ultimo film, When you return I’ll be living by the waterside, è stato proposto in anteprima mondiale all’International Film Festival Rotterdam, e a Venezia ha vinto il premio del Move Cine Arch per la “migliore forma”.
EN. Dutch artist Petra Noordkamp (b. 1967) moves fluidly between photography and film. She explores the influence of experiences, memories, movies and dreams on the perception of architecture and the urban environment. Her work is characterized by a great love of simplicity, emptiness, form and aesthetics, radiating a feeling of loneliness, alienation and melancholy.
She lives and works in Amsterdam where she studied photography at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie. Having worked for magazines and newspapers for several years, as well as participating in various group exhibitions, in 2012 she made her first short film. The Mother, the Son and the Architect was shown in an exhibition of her work at Foam photography museum in Amsterdam and was selected for various Dutch and international film festivals and exhibitions. She was an artist-in-residence at the American Academy in Rome in autumn 2013. In 2014 the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation in New York commissioned her to make a short film about Il Grande Cretto di Gibellina, a land art work by the Italian artist Alberto Burri. This film was screened at the Guggenheim during the Burri retrospective in 2015. In 2016 it was shown at K21 in Düsseldorf, MAXXI in Rome, Fondazione Burri in Citta di Castello and the Centre Pompidou in Paris. Her latest film When you return I’ll be living by the waterside had its world premiere at International Film Festival Rotterdam in January 2018 and it won the Move Cine Arch’s Award for Best Form in Venice.
