Il libro

IT.
Mi sento molto a disagio.

EN. Petra Noordkamp used the images in motion to alternate details and background from after the earthquake. Her lens captures the passing and the sudden interruption of time, the persistence of memory, and the traces that it leaves behind. «Everything is ruined, entire streets have been eradicated, and dozens of houses have been transformed into rubble. I feel very ill at ease. I film the collapsed buildings, but I feel like a disaster tourist.
Back in the Marche, I primarily capture close-ups of the abandoned belongings of the inhabitants of the ruined houses. And though it’s sometimes very difficult, as it almost feels like theft, I believe it’s important to record, preserve, devote attention to these objects.
On this short trip across Marche, I had the opportunity to visit the large depots in Ancona and San Severino where hundreds of artefacts, sculptures and paintings – saved from the devastated churches – are being stored. These works have been carefully packed, in archival paper and bubble wrap, and meticulously labelled. And though I’m full of admiration for the people who save and cherish these objects, I wonder why there hasn’t been the same amount of attention for the treasured possessions of the inhabitants of the ravaged homes».

IT.
